One night.
Multiple shows.
No idea what's going to happen.
Improvisers from Prague and beyond share one stage for an evening of completely unscripted theatre. No scripts. No repeats. One night only.
A curated night of longform improv, three or four times a year.
Most improv nights are one group doing one show. The Extravaganza puts several ensembles on the same stage in a single evening, each performing a different longform format, so the audience moves from abstract physical theatre to drama to pure play without leaving their seat.
Groups apply with a format. The programme is chosen so the evening has a shape: the acts contrast and build on each other rather than simply following in a row. Prague ensembles share the bill with visiting groups from across Europe.
Every edition is one night, one venue, completely unscripted.
The lineup
An abstract improvised performance built around a metal scaffolding dome. Actors and dancers improvise inside and around it with light, live synthesizer, and voiceover narration — the dome becoming a house, a tower, a shelter, a UFO, but never a cage. Physical theatre fused with live improv, moving between drama, movement, and silence.
Two couples, one relationship's worth of moments that matter — a move-in, a pregnancy, a betrayal — told first through silence, breath, and touch before a single word is spoken. A new format that trades laughs for tension and emotional exposure, and dares you to watch.
A chair is placed on stage. Is it a chair, a throne, a coffin, a cliff edge? The audience decides. A brand-new longform where every shout of "CHAIRS!" drops another chair on stage and sends the improvisers scrambling to build a whole new world.
The classic Chicago longform. A single long opening scene becomes the source material for everything that follows: later scenes pull apart its characters, themes, and throwaway lines, exploring them from new angles before returning to where it all began.
Two nights down. Neither will ever happen again.
That's the deal with improv. Here's what the first two editions looked like.
